The Ford Bronco made a triumphant return to the US auto market with both the iconic Ford Bronco and the crossover SUV Ford Bronco Sport in 2021. As of this writing, the Bronco Sport was offered with one of two boosted engines, a 1.5-liter I3 or a 2.0-liter I4. Regardless of which engine came in your Bronco Sport, the replacement battery is the same- an H6 or Group 48.

Whether your Bronco Sport came from the factory with an Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB) or Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery, OPTIMA offers a direct-fit upgrade for either battery with our DH6 YELLOWTOP. In addition to being up to 15 times more resistant to damage from vibration, the OPTIMA YELLOWTOP can last up to three times as long as a traditional flooded lead-acid battery. It's also quite the heavyweight, tipping the scales at just over 54 pounds.

Weight is an important consideration when purchasing a battery, because it is a strong indicator of how much active material is inside the battery. That typically translates into more starting power, more reserve capacity and longer lifespan. Did you know the 1979 Ford Bronco was offered with a 6.6-liter V8 engine, that could be started with a Group 35 REDTOP that weighs less than 32 pounds?

Does that make you wonder why an old Bronco with an engine 340% larger than a new Bronco Sport with a 1.5-liter engine could use a battery that weighs 41% less than the DH6 YELLOWTOP battery found in newer Bronco Sports? Believe it or not, newer Bronco Sports are far more demanding from an electrical perspective, starting with start/stop engines. Vehicles equipped with start/stop engines need their battery to start their engine thousands of times more than a vehicle that doesn't have a start/stop engine.

All the other accessories we've come to expect in newer vehicles, from satellite-based navigation systems, integrated car alarms and even wifi connections all place additional demands on batteries in modern vehicles. The best thing you can do to maximize battery performance and lifespan in your Bronco Sport is to keep the battery fully-charged whenever possible (our YELLOWTOP batteries are fully-charged at about 13.0-13.2 volts). We're so confident this is true, if you buy an OPTIMA battery from us and purchase an OPTIMA Digital 1200 battery charger from us at the same time, we'll extend the free replacement warranty coverage on your OPTIMA battery by a full year!
