Are OPTIMA Batteries worth it, assuming that means are they worth the higher price over flooded lead-acid options? That question used to be simpler to answer, but now that OPTIMA offers lithium batteries for motorcycle and marine applications, we have to make sure we cover off on those options as well. The quick answer is that OPTIMA REDTOP, YELLOWTOP and BLUETOP AGM batteries can last up to three times as long as traditional flooded lead-acid batteries and the ORANGETOP lithium batteries can offer even more cycle life than our AGM batteries.
The question from there really depends on the individual and the application. If you plan on holding onto your car, truck, boat, motorcycle or RV for a long time, then OPTIMA Batteries are probably worth the investment. If you are leasing a vehicle, getting ready to sell a vehicle or adding an OPTIMA battery will significantly increase the overall value of your vehicle, then you are probably better off not spending the extra money to buy an OPTIMA battery. In those instances, we'd recommend buying the cheapest flooded lead-acid battery you can find.
Now that we've covered off on the basic question, let's dive deeper to see if the difference between an OPTIMA AGM and OPTIMA ORANGETOP lithium battery is worth the incremental investment. As we mentioned before, OPTIMA's ORANGETOP lithium batteries can offer significantly more cycle life than flooded or even AGM batteries. If you live in an RV or boat and you routinely find yourself without shore power, then cycle life is a really big deal and lithium batteries will definitely offer a tangible performance advantage. The same is true for fishing guides and pro anglers, who may spend most days of the year on the water, cycling trolling motor batteries.
Lithium batteries also offer a weight advantage over flooded lead-acid and AGM batteries, so if you're a flats fisherman or race motocross, every ounce matters.
