Dodge Viper Battery

When the Dodge Viper was announced, it was supposed to hearken back to a more primitive era of automotive performance. Side pipes, no key locks on the doors and no handles on the outside of the doors. In the early-1990s, the Viper definitely delivered on performance, but eventually these cars need their batteries replaced and when they do, it can be a bit of a chore. In a nod to performance and better weight distribution, the battery in the earlier models was located behind the rear tire on the driver's side of the car.

As much as that may have helped with balancing the car, it meant removing the rear tire and a panel inside the wheel well, just to access the battery. That's not something anyone wants to make a habit of doing, so if you value your time, you're better off buying the best battery you can find and taking care of it, to maximize the interval between battery replacement. As newer generations of Vipers came along, battery fitment options actually increased for a while, with some Viper owners having as many as five different OPTIMA batteries to choose from. However, by the time the fifth generation Viper was released, Dodge moved to a less common battery size. Viper production numbers were never very big to begin with, so the combination of a low volume vehicle and a less common battery size meant OPTIMA was unlikely to offer a replacement for the 2013 and newer Vipers.

However, OPTIMA does offer 12-volt battery chargers and maintainers that work great on all 12-volt lead-acid batteries and will help maximize the performance and lifespan of those batteries. That's something to consider, if changing your battery requires the removal of a wheel and wheel well panel.
