Batteries have been used to start Harley-Davidson Sportsters, ever since the kick-start went away and in the earlier years of electric-start Sportsters, like the one pictured above, the OPTIMA ORANGETOP QUAD20 lithium battery is the direct-fit upgrade, whether the bike came with an 883, 1100 or 1200 engine. When the all-new frame came out for the 2004 model year, the Sportster battery changed sizes and location, with an OPTIMA ORANGETOP QUAD14 lithium battery now designated as the direct-fit upgrade.
The OPTIMA ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle batteries offer several key features that we feel Harley-Davidson owners will appreciate, starting with our POWERLINK dongle. This cable attaches directly to the battery and not only offers the flexibility of a remotely-mounted charging port, but it also has an LED display indicating state of charge on the battery. It allows you to put the battery into "sleep" mode, which can be an added theft deterrent.
OPTIMA's ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle batteries also come with the integrated OPTIMA CPR system, which automatically disconnects your battery from parasitic draws when the voltage hits a minimum level. This allows you to make sure your battery has enough power left in it for one more start, to get you back home safely.
ORANGETOP lithium motorcycle batteries also come with the important safety feature of an advanced microprocessor-controlled Battery Management System (BMS) to monitor and control all charging and cell balancing functions in the battery. Fully-charged, ORANGETOP batteries will measure 14.0 volts and the stock motorcycle charging system will have no trouble maintaining these batteries. However, if you need to charge the battery with a charger or you use a maintainer when the bike is not in use, it should be designed specifically for use with 12-volt lithium batteries, like the OPTIMA D200+, which can charge lithium or lead-acid 12-volt batteries. If you use another brand of lithium charger or maintainer, the quad terminals on the ORANGETOP will offer multiple options for permanently mounting charger cables to the battery.
