The Pontiac G8 was only offered in the United States market for two year- 2008 and 2009. With the economy in tatters and General Motors looking to sunset the Pontiac brand, the cars were slow to move off dealer lots. Even with price incentives, less than 40,000 ever made it onto public roads. Fortunately, the car battery used by the Pontiac G8 is far more common, the H7, for which OPTIMA offers a direct-fit upgrade.

Like many performance cars, the G8 had the battery re-located to the trunk area. That helps improve weight distribution, helps protect the battery from high temperatures under the hood of the G8 and allows more room up front for a bigger engine. Normally, when batteries are re-located to the trunk, they are positioned in the opposite corner of the driver. However, that is not the case in the G8, where the battery is located behind the driver's side rear wheel well.

The reason the G8 battery ended up on the driver's side is likely because the car was originally designed as a right-hand drive sedan for the Australian market, so the opposite corner would be the left side and too much additional cost would probably be incurred to relocate the battery to the other side.

The OPTIMA DH7 YELLOWTOP that fits in the Pontiac G8 is fully-charged at about 13.0-13.2 volts. Keeping your battery fully-charged whenever possible will not only help maximize battery performance, but battery lifespan as well. We're so confident this is the case, if you purchase a DH7 YELLOWTOP for your G8 from us and buy an OPTIMA Digital 1200 Charger at the same time, we'll add an additional year of free replacement warranty coverage to your OPTIMA battery!
