The first qualifying event for the 2012 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) was held last weekend, when the Run to the Alamo took place at Harris Hill Road Raceway in San Marcos, Texas. When the dust (rain) settled, Karl Dunn emerged with the Spirit of the Event Award and the first invitation to the 2012 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational.

Karl is no stranger to these events and ran in several last year, including the Heidt's Performance Car Challenge and a few of the other "Run To" events. Dunn drove his 2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones S302 Ford Mustang in San Marcos, one of just 500 ever produced.

While Karl's ticket to SEMA and the 2012 OUSCI has been punched, there are many more slots left to be filled. This year, OPTIMA would like fans to have a voice in the selection process. Following each qualifying event, we will be posting a fan poll on the OPTIMA Batteries Facebook page and fans will be encouraged to vote for their favorite car over a five-day period, from the top-five eligible finishers from each event. The driver/car with the most votes at the end of that five-day voting period will also receive an invitation to the 2012 OUSCI. We expect to start the first poll very soon, so be sure to cast your vote and tell your friends to do the same!
